Thanksgiving Assembly

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what you have. People celebrate it on the last Thursday of November by feasting on turkey, pie, mashed potatoes, and much more. People's relatives usually come and enjoy the feast.
At Edgewood, we have a special assembly in the gym to give thanks for our school and what it has offered us.
On the day of the assembly, the gym was decorated with foliage colors, prop turkeys, and banners. First, the kids sang the school song together. Everyone felt like part of Edgewood when they were singing with so many people. Next, we watched a video of two teachers, Ms. Mazzillo and Ms. Koski, trying to sneak around the school in blow up turkey costumes without getting caught by some of the staff members. They stopped in the first grade hallway to admire the turkey bulletin board and visited the library along the way to hear Mrs. Turner read a story. They dressed up to sneak past the security guard in the office, but when they went by they saw something unusual. (Watch the video below to find out what it is!) This video reminds us how beautiful the school is and how hard the staff works every day to make Edgewood a better place.
Finally, some members of the Salvation Army came and talked to us about how thankful they were for our food donations to the poor. Each grade donated something different such as canned corn and mashed potatoes, so families in need could celebrate Thanksgiving like us.
At the assembly, everyone had a great time, and we should thank the school faculty for organizing such a wonderful event, so we could get together as a group.
It is notable that the Turkey Run, where teachers dress up in turkey costumes and race down the gym floor, did not happen at the assembly this year. The run was a favorite of children over the past years, so students felt a bit disappointed. The kids hope it will come back next year. We can't wait for next Thanksgiving!
