Edgewood's Service Dog
by Grace Lennon, Grace Mialkowski, and Mia Tamura
Service dogs are important to help people. If someone is blind, a service dog helps by knowing where to go on their leash. They might pull to tell where to go. Another thing they can do is help the police find a criminal by sniffing. The type of dog that usually is a German Shepherd.
Because they're great guard dogs, if you have one, if someone is robbing your house, it will probably bark to wake you up. One more guard dog is a Chiwawa because they bark a lot.
We have a service dog at Edgewood! The service dog has been working here since 2021. It is a golden retriever, and it's called the Giving Retriever Therapy Dog. The service dog works with Ms. Mazillo's class. Ms. Mazillo has been teaching at Edgewood for 9 years. She uses the service dog to help special needs kids. The Giving Retriever comes to Edgewood two times every month.
If you see a dog in the hallway at Edgewood, now you know why!
